In the recent EHS Hero update, the EPA has issued conflicting regulations and actions. Meat and poultry processors face proposed new effluent limitations guidelines requiring costly water filtration systems, while enforcement actions have increased with 482 settlements in Q3 of 2024. The EPA reversed its stance on Colorado’s oil and gas emissions data collection and lost a court case involving industrial boiler classifications. Additionally, the EPA granted Class VI well permits in Texas for CO2 sequestration and fined Hiland Dairy Foods $93K for Clean Air Act violations. Companies are urged to proactively review their compliance with EPCRA reporting to avoid hefty penalties.
