In this issue of EHS Hero What's New, key discussions focus on serious safety violations, including a Chicago countertop manufacturer facing over $1 million in OSHA fines after an employee developed accelerated silicosis, Cal/OSHA's recruitment of additional investigators, and a Dallas-area childcare provider ordered to reinstate a whistleblower and pay damages. Also highlighted is a settlement reached by Mar-Jac Poultry with the Department of Labor following the death of a 16-year-old worker, alongside updates on OSHA’s progress with six significant rulemakings.

Compliance updates include California’s revised definition of "High-Exposure Trigger Task" for silica in both general industry and construction. New resources this month include PowerPoints on defensive driving for noncommercial motorists and housekeeper safety, as well as an employee newsletter covering confined space responsibilities, hand tool safety, mold recognition and removal, and HazCom labels.

Additional resources include a white paper on the surge in drug test cheating in 2023, based on data from Quest Diagnostics, and a preview of the upgraded EHS Hero platform launching this fall. The platform will feature a configurable dashboard, customizable quick links, enhanced search capabilities, and improved user management tools.
